Van Donation from Dominion Virginia Power

FREDERICKSBURG, VA (March 1, 2017) – For many, a simple white van on the road is just another vehicle, but at the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank (FRFB), that van is the lifeline carrying food and hygiene articles to those struggling with hunger.  When the FRFB needed to replace an aging vehicle, that’s when Dominion Virginia Power stepped in and donated a 2006, Chevrolet cargo van.

“Many in the community do not realize that without trucks and vans on the road each day the food bank would not be able to provide food for the more than 35,000 people in Fredericksburg, and surrounding counties that need help,” said Oya Oliver, President and CEO of the FRFB. “Dominion understands that having a dependable vehicle for our drivers is important to keep our commitment of delivering food to our 70 partner agency pantries.”

“We are so excited to receive this cargo van from Dominion,” said Mishelle Krogstad, Agency and Programs Director at the FRFB. “It will replace our 2002, van for everyday pickups so you know you will see it all over town.”

The keys to the van were recently presented to FRFB Operations Manager, Steve Carty, by Eric Tatum, Dominion’s local manager of Distribution Construction.

“The cargo van served us well over the years, and considering it’s in excellent operating condition, it will serve the FRFB for many more years to come,” Tatum said. “It is our privilege to donate the van to an organization that folks in our community depend on for a basic human need.”
