FY22 Omnibus Spending Bill

We need your help! Yes, we know, we always need your help, but there is a specific new reason to ask for assistance now.

This week, Congress agreed to a $1.5 trillion spending bill to allocate government funding through Sept. 30. The Feeding America network and the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank as part of that network had hoped this allocation would make much-needed additional investments to address the dual challenges presented by the pandemic and inflation by expanding resources allocated to The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) - a program we rely on for nearly 2 million pounds of food for our distributions within the Central Rappahannock River Region each year.

Unfortunately, the scale of additional investment hoped for was not made. The bill also did not extend critical child nutrition program waivers that provide needed flexibility for communities to ensure children have safe access to meals. With 1 out of 10 children affected by hunger in our region, that effect can be devastating, especially for minority families who are disproportionately impacted by hunger.

Just as families here and across our nation are facing rising prices at the grocery store and gas pump, we will be asked to continue doing more for families in the Central Rappahannock River Region with less governmental resources than are needed.

Here’s where you come in. We invite you to take a moment to do one or both of the following:

1) Contact your federal legislators and ask them to support strong funding for The Emergency Food Assistance Program and child nutrition programs in future funding packages

2) Go to our website to make a personal financial donation as an investment that will help us respond strongly as demand for our services increases due to inflation

Thank you for all you do and for sharing your voice, your passion, and your great community spirit to help neighbors in need!
