The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank has announced that there will be a special drive-through food and toy distribution, called “Turkeys and Toys,” from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center. The purpose of this distribution is to provide additional support to families who need assistance for the holidays. This event will use COVID precautions with minimal contact.

Sponsored by the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, in partnership with United Healthcare, the goal is to provide holiday food support to at least 500 families. The first 500 cars served will receive one turkey breast or turkey per vehicle. Other foods distributed will include milk, boxes of produce, chicken, and cereal, and a limited supply of toys will also be distributed as long as supplies of food commodities and toys last.

"We know that hunger is a year-round issue for thousands of families in our area. But communities tend to be more conscious of the issue of hunger around the holidays. The holidays are not a time when hunger spikes significantly, but can be a time that puts pressure on families to stretch themselves financially. We hope the Turkeys and Toys event will show our commitment to easing some of the financial strain of the holidays and supporting families who are struggling, by giving them the chance to have some of the holiday traditions many of us take for granted, especially during this year when we are seeing so many ordinary household costs rise," said Dan Maher, President & CEO of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

There is no registration required for this event. Those attending will be eligible to receive assistance based on self-declaration of need, as long as supplies last.
