FRFB NAMES DAN MAHER AS NEW PRESIDENT & CE0

The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Dan Maher as President & CEO. Maher’s appointment will begin in January 2021 and follows the April retirement of former President & CEO, Oya Oliver.

"The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank Board of Directors undertook a national search over approximately 10 months for the right person to be our next Chief Executive Officer,” says Shawn Buckner-Barnes, Board Chair. “We are fortunate to have someone of Dan Maher's caliber and experience to come to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. It is a crucial time with the pandemic creating more need than ever before in our area. Mr. Maher has the experience and vision essential to lead the Food Bank forward. The entire Board of Directors looks forward to working with Mr. Maher and matching his energy and commitment to serve members of our community as we continue to work toward our vision of a hunger-free community."

Mr. Maher has been Executive Director of the Southeast Texas Food Bank in Beaumont, Texas since 2013. Maher’s accomplishments during that time include doubling food distribution, expansion of the food bank’s warehouse, adding a senior-oriented feeding program, and engaging in community response to several natural disasters and the current pandemic. Maher previously was Vice President of Development and Communications at Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas before coming to the Southeast Texas Food Bank.

"I am excited about the opportunity to work with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and broader community to scale the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank to the current and future demands for supplemental food access in this community," said Maher. "The current pandemic has altered food access channels for all of us and placed many more on the margins of that important basic human need. The disruptions it has caused may have long-term effects. As a native Virginian returning to my home state, I hope to help generate positive impacts for those in need of better food access in this community and know those associated with the Food Bank share a long-term commitment to implementing that vision as well."

Since Oya Oliver’s retirement, Dayle Reschick, former Finance & Administration Director, has been acting as Interim President & CEO of the Food Bank. “After over 25 years with the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, it has been my honor to serve during this time. I am delighted that such a qualified leader has been identified and anticipate a smooth transition.”
