Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank today announced that it has received a donation of $11,000 from Sheetz For the Kidz, a charitable organization driven by the employees of Sheetz, Inc., to help provide hunger-relief to children in PD16. The funds will be used to purchase healthy food for the Food4Families School Pantry program.

The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America® network, is one of 27 food banks to receive this funding from Sheetz For the Kidz. It is projected that this grant will enable the food bank to provide the equivalent of 22,000 meals to those in need. “During this especially challenging time for families, we are so grateful for the support of Sheetz in helping to ensure that no child in our community struggles with the devastating impact of hunger,” says Dayle Reschick, Interim President & CEO. “The impact of childhood hunger is long-lasting and Sheetz’s commitment to helping achieve our vision of a hunger-free community is much appreciated.”

In PD16, one in 9 children struggles with hunger. That’s nearly 11,500 children who are living in households that do not have access to the food they need to thrive. Due to COVID-19, the FRFB has seen many families receiving food assistance for the first time. Feeding America estimates that the percentage of hungry children in our area ranges from over 23% in the City of Fredericksburg to over 20% in King George. As a regional convenience store, Sheetz is committed to helping to fight childhood hunger in the communities it resides in. Through its program “Made-to-Share,” Sheetz is rescuing food from their 600 stores and donating it to Feeding America member food banks located in their six-state footprint.

"Sheetz For the Kidz is a proud supporter of the Feeding America network of food banks' child hunger programs,” said Executive Director of Sheetz For the Kidz, Brittany Funcheon. "This year, with our donation, we will support local food banks’ Kid’s Cafes, Backpack Programs and Mobile Pantries."

The FRFB is maintaining its regular business hours of Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm during the COVID-19 crisis.
