September is Hunger Action Month, which is when the food banks and their partners come together to advocate for strong nutrition programs and to raise awareness around food insecurity.  Starting today and for the entire month of September, we are proud to introduce LFF 2020 Redux – an opportunity for the legal community as individuals to continue our partnership with Virginia’s Food Banks and demonstrate our commitment to ensuring all Virginians have enough to eat in these unprecedented times.

Before the pandemic, Virginia’s Food Banks served nearly one million people on an annual basis. With high unemployment, skyrocketing food prices, diminished access to school meals, and uncertain federal benefits, Virginia’s Food Banks anticipate a 50% increase in the number of people experiencing food insecurity over the course of the next year. A recent study from Northwestern University Institute for Policy Research estimates that Virginia food insecurity increased from 9.4% in February to 22% in June.

Thank you again for your support, understanding, and patience during these times.  As a community, we will make it through this together and come out stronger on the other side.
